pine cone Tower

A tower building mimicked after the egg shape with a egg-shell fasade(Kerto LVL) and glass windows. The glass dome structure will be constructed primarily out of LVL. Existing buildings examples the Torre Agbar tower, Gherkin tower. I am not follow the modular design to a T because I think its the wrong approach. By building this building I hope to entice the giant contractors into the possiblilies of what can be achieved with wood products, growd mentallity will proceed getting the small/meduim builders/contractors on board.

Key benefit

Biomimicry - Alternative Approach to Sustainability

Material list

External (maily) steel structure, Internal structures will primarily be Kerto LVL floor , Beams,Joists,Trusses, Frames and other components of roof, floor, walls, doors and window frames elements
Kerto LVL used in all the plausiable and possible applications,

Ecological values

Biomimicry Sustainability, the use of LVL, CO2 exorbtion by wood facade, no energy required to heat/cool building, natuaral HVAC system can be achieved, I am thinking about using copper tilies in the facade aswell, and using copper as some internal components as door handles, (hinges), etc, because of the elegant look but also because it has natuaral bacterial and fungel properties. Maglift elevators (main shaft is located in the centre of the building.External shaft frame:LVL&wood structure, passanger elevator glass tube tub, LVL floor, )

  • Economical span (mm)
  • Thickness (mm)
  • Airbourne sound reduction factor (dB)
  • Impact sound transmission (dB)
  • Resistance to fire class
  • Thermal properties

  • This is a really interesting concept. There are many aspects in tall timber buildings that need consideration. Would you be able to work some of these out? Cambridge University have done some research for tall timber buildings which can be found here: It highlights some of the challenges and where there is still work to do.
